The Wheels on the Bus

We are working hard to learn the bus safety rules and procedures at school. The children are becoming more independent in their afterschool routine. We haven't all quite mastered stating the number of the bus we ride, but the children are able to recognize their bus and driver. We'll keep working on the numbers. At the end of the day I get a 'hug, handshake or high-five' from each child. It is my way of making sure they are accounted for and that they understand what they are doing afterschool.

We made these yummy bus crackers for snack this week.

We walked a MILE!!!

The elementary Walk-a-thon was a HUGE success! With everyone's help, our school raised over $3700 dollars! Kindergarten led the procession around the track and we walked as a group. Every child made the entire mile! I am so proud of them! I loved how they thought we "won" the race, because our class finished first. However, all the classes had to stay in their spot in the procession and it wasn't a race. But I let them think we won ... they worked so hard. They had a blast thinking of chants to yell as we walked past the bleachers full of supporters. We even learned a little skip counting - 2,4,6,8, what do we appreciate? Kindergarten! Kindergarten! Yeah, Kindergarten!

This is the banner that we made to hang in the hallway the day of the walk.

Good job everyone!

Kindergarten Connections #1

WE {heart} CENTER TIME!

Each day we spend time working in centers with our friends. We are learning to share, cooperate, take turns and clean up our space. The center board is how we keep track of our jobs. Each child’s name tag moves to the space on the board that they are assigned to. Sometimes the choices are assigned (bossy centers) and sometimes the students choose their own space to work in (free choice). We will eventually have 14 choices. Be sure to ask your child which center is their favorite!

A DOT is ALOT!

When I think back to my elementary school days, I remember paste. It didn’t drip or squirt, it was just sticky and thick. I wonder what ever happened to paste?

One of the first things to learn about our bottle of Elmer’s glue is that ‘a dot is a lot!” Glue sticks are great, but sometimes you just need something to really hold a project together and it’s GLUE!

Your child brought home a page that they practiced tapping dots onto we even have special glue bottle tops so that we can “tap-n-glue.” I bet you haven’t given this much thought to glue in a long time!

If you want a fun resource for a song about glue click this LINK for a free download.

Getting ready for Kindergarten!

Miss Bindergarten is an expert at getting ready for Kindergarten! And we had used her book to compare her classroom to ours. There are many things that are the same. Everyone drew about the activities they did to get ready for kindergarten and we made a fun project to display them in the hallway.

Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten is a great rhyming book!

Stop! Stop! said the Kindergartners! Day 3 adventures!

Run, run as fast as you can! The cookies ran away. We thought we had outsmarted them, but we left the cover off the cookie box and when we came back they were gone! The kindergarten kids really know their way around the school! They followed the clues and helped me find Mrs. Haberman’s office, the library, the nurse’s office, the gym, the High School office and Mr. Drake’s office. We found the cookies in the conference room so we quickly frosted them, added buttons and ATE THEM! It was a super fun activity! (and we learned a lot about moving around the school independently and met new adults who are helpers at school.)

Happy Friday - Day 2

Happy Friday!

We are very busy!

We had a morning meeting. Chester the raccoon helped us out. When we hold him, it is our turn to talk. We started counting how many days we have been in school. We are counting to 100 and beyond!

The playground was lots of fun. Mr. Olson blew the whistle.

We went through the lunch line, ate our sandwiches and sweet potato fries (yum!) and dumped our tray.

Today we practiced singing “Jump Jack Jump.”

We built block towers, shared the sand table, exercised our fingers with playdoh and pretended in the house corner with an inside voice.

We ran in the gym and did singing at music.

Rest time is a nice time to relax. We are working on settling down and staying in our own space.

We read the story Miss Bindergarten gets ready for Kindergarten. We learned to use dot glue and made a project that looks just like Miss Bindergarten!

We did more, but I am out of time!

Wow!

See you Monday!
